Interpretating on Chiloe Island
A
visit to the south of Chile is a great opportunity to learn about beekeeping
and its importance in the local culture. Chiloe Island, located in the south of
Chile, is one of the most important centres for beekeeping in the country. It
is home to many beekeepers who have been producing honey for centuries. Our language
consultant Milena Bahamonde accompanied Jason Marshal — an expert in beekeeping
and honey from New Zealand — on a visit to this region providing an insight
into this traditional practice and its importance in the local economy. An
interpretation visit helped him understand more about beekeeping and its role
in the culture of the region, as well as giving new commercial opportunities to the
beekeepers in the area.
